Getting the pace right

One of the most important elements involved in writing an effective novel is getting the pace right, that’s ‘pace’ not to be confused with ‘speed’. Dropping in too much information can slow a story down and drive away the reader.

Crime writer John Dean has created one of the free Handy Hints sections on this website, which is designed to help the aspiring writer to avoid the pitfalls when dealing with pace.

It’s a subject that John always has in mind, particularly when he starts a new novel, as he is doing at the moment with his character DCI John Blizzard.
