John Dean – Crime Writer

The range of articles to be found on this website is illustrated by the two very different pieces that have been posted today.

One of the articles sees crime writer John Dean examining the importance of knowing when to delete passages, as part of the Handy Hints pages, aimed primarily at emerging writers learning their craft. The page can be found at Handy Hints – Editing.

The second post tells how New Writing North has announced the latest winners of its Significant Ink awards for 2025, including Jessica Chen, a writer of fantasy fiction who is based in Newcastle, pictured here.

Significant Ink is the organisation’s writer development and outreach programme for global majority writers (authors from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds) who live in Newcastle, North Tyneside or Northumberland.
