You may recall that yesterday I was facing the dreaded blank page and the even more dreaded mind as I begin work on my new crime novel. My solution was to start writing and see where it took me. It does not always work but it did on this occasion.
I imagined my character DCI Harris on a walk with his dogs on his beloved northern hills and what emerged was him having an instinctive sense that something was wrong, followed by the fleeting appearance of a figure in the distance, after which an idea I have had for a long time popped into my mind again and I began to see the semblance of a story developing, nowhere near complete but enough to keep going. The author’s mind can be a remarkable thing!
