When we set up our website dedicated to crime writing in Dumfries and Galloway earlier this year, we knew that there were decent foundations on which to build but I don’t think we realised quite how much there was happening.
The website, which has been created by Chris Walker, owner of the Selkirk Arms Hotel in the town, and local crime novelists Ian Robinson and John Dean, features articles about events, including a weekend workshop at the hotel, talks and meet-the-author events, big name visits among them, (one of them features Doug Johnstone, pictured here, who is a guest of Stewartry Literary Society in Kirkcudbright in October 2026), publication deals, new books being published, backlists being brought back to life, award shortlisting and features authors living and working in the area or using it as a backdrop for their stories, both fictional and non-fiction.
